Spidey and His Amazing Friends

Back in 2019, I had the chance to work with Atomic Cartoons again on a dev test for a kids Spidey series that is now called "Spidey and his Amazing Friends' for Disney Plus. I was asked to tackle the texture, look dev and modeling/ sculpting refinements for the 3 characters in pitch test to Marvel. Below is the final look for Spidey and Gwen in the animation test that was presented. I was given a good amount of creative freedom when it came to the texture setup and look, with the only guidelines were to make it work for a younger audience and to keep it stylized with clear pattern recognition.
I decided that each character should have some material variation, so I added some fuzz parameters, including a halftone pattern, in the shader for softer parts of the costume to contrast to the more specular response of other parts. I also wanted each character to have a distinct geometric pattern to roll into the specular reflection that can show up on the glancing angles and become softer in the ambient light.
